Hello Cedar families,
This week in the Cedar and Dogwood classes we learned about birds. We looked and talked about different colors of birds and learned the sign for bird ( Make a fist and put first finger and thumb together to make a beak and open and close) . The children also learned about how different birds sound, talked about how they build nests up in trees – we have one on the Dogwood playground in one of our trees! We also talked about what they eat, the children thought it was cool that the birds eat berries like we do. We had fun walking around like birds flapping our wings. We practiced using our lunch place mats and putting our plates on our big cycle and our cups on the small cycle, playing with feathers in the sensory table, and trying to throw a ball over our head. In our small group lessons this week we talked about the birds we see outside, and how colorful they are to see, and trees getting flowers and looking pretty, and we sang “Kookaburra” and “Come On Everybody – Do What I Do”.
During circle time, this week we read: Are You My Mother, Mouse’s First Spring, Hippo Is Happy and I Can Say Thank You. The children continued building their practical life skills this week by helping wash the tables, pouring water from one cup to the other and putting our toys away. This week in art we painted pine cones, explored with Goop and painted with foam paint. The children also had the fun springtime opportunity of exploring with wet and dry toys. We dried our cars off after it rained and they tried to squeeze the washcloth and get water out of it. The children had fun with crawling through tunnels outside. And as we are sure you know your children are quite creative and they made their own birds and animals with the pine cones and goop.
In music, this week Ms. Kathleen brought the Three Little Kittens book and we listened to hear the cats meow in the story and talked about how cats like to try to get birds. We danced with scarves of different colors and flapped our pretend wings with the scarves. When Ms. Kathleen wasn’t around the children enjoyed doing “Animal Actions” and singing “ABC’s” and “Rain Rain Go Away”.
Have an warm and dry weekend and enjoy the wonderful sunshine!
