Hello Aspen families!

We had a busy week getting a closer look at flowers. In circle we talked about how the roots gather water and the stem helps disperse it to the various parts of the flower and the leaves of a plant gather sunlight and give the plant energy to grow. The children also continued with rhyming words. This week the children came up with words that rhymed with splish and splat. In circle we also read stories like “Bear sees Color, “Spring”, “Who likes Rain?”, “Tap Tap Boom Boom”, and “Over in the Meadow”. We looked for all the different colored plants and flowers in these books and talked about what plants need in order to grow.

This week the class continued working on their fine motor skills with pouring and scooping sand and pinching and molding floam and play-doh. We also introduced a new letter matching work to the literacy shelf where children can match the upper and lower-case letters to each other.  In small literacy groups the children took a closer look at the letters /p/ and /n/ by tracing them with their fingers on sand paper letters and making the letter sounds.

This week in Spanish the children reviewed colors, counting with a ball, vowels, and clothing. In music Ms. Kathleen brought in her guitar again and sang various songs with the children. She also gave the children the opportunity to compose their own songs and sing them while she played the guitar for them. In P.E. the children played duck duck goose and red light green light and ran races around the birch playground.

Next week we will continue looking at signs of Spring by taking a closer look at birds!
