Dear Forest/River families,
We had a wonderful busy week in our classroom!
We said good bye to our butterfly friends we named Wolly, Wing, Diamond Head, Goldie, and Pony on Tuesday. The children really enjoyed watching them transition from each stage of life and setting them free.
This week- The children learned about birds of prey. We learned that eagles, osprey, hawks, owls, kites, harriers, buzzards, merlins, vultures, goshawks, and condors are all in the birds of prey family.
We learned that birds of prey:
- Are sometimes referred to as raptors
- Eat meat
- Use their strong talon feet and beaks to hunt small rodents, animals, and fish
We had a special guest visit Treehouse from the Birds of Prey foundation. This terrific foundation specializes in rehabilitation of injured birds. The children had the opportunity to meet an American Kestrel named Blue and a Barred owl named Cookie.
Field Trip Fun – On Tuesday we went on a class a field trip to Lafayette Festival Plaza. The children had so much fun taking the city bus and playing on the splash pad and celebrating with delicious ice cream from Eats and Sweets!
Next week – We will learn about the rain forest!
Have a fantastic weekend!
