This week in River

Dear River Families,

This week in River we began learning about owls and started a short unit on emotions/feelings. We used cards of children around the world with different expressions to define and discuss emotional vocabulary words. Understanding different descriptors of emotions will help your child in identifying their own emotions especially helpful during conflict resolution. We made jack-o-lanterns with different facial expressions to represent a range of emotions. Centers this week included searching for sight words in magazines and making sight words with the magnetic letters. We also had our first Listening Center activity, and the children were very excited to listen to ‘Wocket in my Pocket’ with the headphones. Finally, we continued working on sounding out CVC words, and matching them to pictures. Math this week focused on writing numbers 1-10 and number sense.

Next Thursday is our first Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch. If you have not done so already, please make sure to fill out the Field Trip permission form and return it to us no later than next Wednesday!  I have filled all the volunteer positions for the field trip to the pumpkin patch on Oct 18. Yay! You are still welcome to join us walking or at the pumpkin patch if you would like to!

Finally, just to clarify, we follow BVSD academic calendar, meaning that days BVSD is closed and Treehouse remains open, kindergarten will have “academic break.” These days will still consist of any special classes we have scheduled but will be more relaxed with free choice and before school/after school activities including games, puzzles, and art options available. If you have any questions feel free to ask or as always you can email me at Kindergarten@treehouselearning.com

I look forward to meeting with you all next week for conferences!

Sincerely,

Ms. Lauren and Ms. Andrea
