Dear Evergreen Families

This week the children continue to enjoy more independent activities outdoors. In the morning the children have an hour of time outside to work on constructing materials, legos, musical instruments and water play. The summer program is using STEAM approaches to learning.  (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.)

During this time, they also have the ability to create something, build, invent, etc with their friends. We have added a dramatic play area where they can pretend to be a construction worker, a homemaker, a cook,  and a firefighter.

On Monday there was a special presentation by The Arvada Center. The children were able to participate and act out the story of the Rainbow Fish. On Wednesday, we had a tornado drill. Everyone cooperated and did great! On Thursday, had a wonderful visit from Playground Theater. They acted out the “Three Billy Goats Gruff” and had the children participate in singing with the Rockin’ Wolf and Little Red.

For small group teacher-led activity, the children explored the mixture of cornstarch and water. They did trial and error by adding more water or more cornstarch to get the correct consistency they wanted, and then they chose a water color to add with their mixture.  This concoction is both solid and liquid…cool!

It was a very exciting week!

We hope you have a great weekend,

Ms. Cezanne, Ms. Karen, Ms. Megan, Ms. Brenda
