Dear River Families,
This week in River we continued learning about space and we practiced our space mini-play that we will perform for Evergreen and Forest! The children are doing a fantastic job memorizing their lines, working together to recite the lines and color the planets. This has been a fun way to learn about our Solar System and the planets. We included Pluto also – even though it is now a dwarf planet! Be sure to ask your child about their planet, they will be very excited to tell you all they’ve learned!
We also reviewed sight words and practiced writing the sight words in their journals. The children are getting good at remembering their sight words. This week I introduced the “message of the day.” During opening group, the children write, “We are going to ___,” with the final word or two changing daily. Centers this week included practicing writing letters and numbers, as well as counting in 10’s with ‘Zero the Hero.’ We also practiced using the classroom resources to identify numbers.
Ms. Charlotte continued working with the students during peace lessons on kindness to others and letting our “love light” shine. The children are learning to notice and identify when they are walking along the red road of peace and when they are walking along the dark road of difficulties and challenges. The Peace Lessons are concrete and powerful lessons that help children acknowledge their own feelings and recognize that they have choice in how they react.
We finished our Jr. Great Book work on, “A Frog Went A-Traveling.” The children are also being encouraged to label their artwork. For example, if they draw a bird, they can put a /b/ above the bird to reinforce letter sounds! Buddy reading and S.Q.I.R.T (Super Quiet Independent Reading Time), are becoming more successful each week! Your child may receive 1-2 books to read over the weekend. Please make sure that you sign and document the book on the reading log. Shares will continue next week.
We are excited to welcome fall and we will start a unit on seasons and apples next week! Our first field trip will be to Isabelle Farms Pumpkin Patch on Thursday, October 17th. If you are interested in joining us, I would love 1 or 2 volunteers. Please email me at kindergarten@treehouselearning.com, thanks!
Sincerely,
Ms. Lauren
