Dear Evergreen Families, 

This week we are welcoming fall! 

We introduced new shelf activities related to fall. On the art shelf the children have a tree they can glue leaves on. The children helped collect leaves outside for this activity. 

Another new shelf work is counting pumpkins. The children take a number card with correlating dots so the children can count them if they don’t recognize the number. They then use small pumpkins to count them out. This is called one to one correspondence. It is a great math practice. 

Lastly on the math and science shelf, we introduced the life cycle of a pumpkin. Throughout this year the children have watched the squash plants in the preschool garden. The teachers highlighted the similarities between the zucchini plant and the pumpkin plants. 

In small groups, we have been reading stories about fall, feelings and a book called The Zoo Zen. This book is great for introducing yoga and movement while reading. The children have really enjoyed it. 

From small groups doing yoga to doing it in a large group, the class were able to follow directions and practiced listening and comprehension from the different yoga poses they did. They also had a graphic practice writing as a large group. We drew floating sticks, rocks and we lollipops, where everyone did a great job of doing it.
