October 11

Dear Dogwood families,

This week in Cedar and Dogwood we talked about feelings and emotions.  During circle, we read Hippo is Happy and Little Bitty Friends.  The children’s favorite book was The Pout Pout Fish, a popular story about a grumpy fish who turns his frowning lips into kissing lips.

In art, the children painted with rollers and animals.  The children worked on matching emotion blocks.  The children also practiced making the same faces depicted on the blocks!  The children enjoyed dancing with scarves and practicing some yoga poses.  The children especially enjoy downward dog and child’s pose.

Our song of the week was “Feelings,” which is sung to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”  The lyrics are:  I have feelings, so do you. Let’s all sing about a few. We get happy, we get sad. We get scared, we get mad. I am proud of being me. That’s a feeling, too, you see. I have feelings, so do you. We just sang about a few.

The children were so excited to see snow after such warm weather days!  It’s hard to believe it is that time of year, but please make sure your child has a warm hat, waterproof coat, snow pants, mittens/gloves, and snow boots.

Next week we will continue exploring feelings and emotions. You can practice at home by labeling feelings of both you and your child.

Have a wonderful warm weekend!

Ms. Kelsey, Ms. Jamie, Ms. Randi and Ms. Eileen
