Hello Forest families! 

This week we continued to present different versions of the Three Little Pigs and act the story out in dramatic play. We read a new version of the story called The Three Wolves and The Big Bad Pig and talked about how that would look in our dramatic play center then spent some time acting out that story. The children were busy drawing and planning what character they wanted to be in the story.   In the planning document the children practice saying their “message” and then they write it using one line as a placeholder for each word to create their message. As they are able, they will add the correct letter to build the words. 

During large group this week the children are learning all about bats. They learned that bats are the only mammals that have wings and can fly. They also learned about echolocation which bats use to help them catch their food. They have been working hard tracing, cutting and gluing “fur” onto their own bat to decorate our classroom with. Be on the lookout for bats in our classroom!

During small groups this week the children have continued to work on letter sounds and letter recognition with the second half of the alphabet. They have all continued to practice counting to 50 and then to 100 by 5s and 10s. We also started practicing counting backwards from 20. 

On Friday we were treated to art with Ms. Melissa. They created fall barn owls, so impressive! They also enjoyed a fun obstacle course with potato sack races on the playground as well as some music and storytelling by the wonderful Beth Epley.

Next week we will continue with the three pigs and bats and start to learn about and work with pumpkins!
