Dear River Families,
We had a blast celebrating Halloween at school on Thursday! We made Halloween books, and listened to Halloween stories at the listening center. Ms. Charlotte made scarecrows with the class and the children did a skeleton labeling activity in Health and Nutrition. The children loved sharing their costumes with each other.
Monday was our 50th day of school and today we welcomed November by starting our unit on European discovery and Native Americans. We began and will continue over the next few weeks to discuss Great Plains and Southwestern Native Americans. The children will learn about the journey of the pilgrims to America and that the Native American tribes were the first Northern Americans living on the land they found. The children have had a lot of interest and questions on this subject that led us to a discussion about where our ancestors are from! We will focus on what Native Americans value (nature, animals, family), what skills they had, where they lived, what they ate, what they wore and more! As for European discovery, we will focus on the trip over the Atlantic Ocean, early villages and learning to survive in the new land
This unit leads us to our big idea: Thankfulness. Over the next few weeks we will identify the fundamental needs of humans and discuss what we have, what others do not have and thankfulness for our health, family, education, food, shelter, and more. This week in our Junior Great Books, we continued the story of the Tale of Two Bad Mice. The children also did a super sight word challenge this week! Math this week included matching object to number line and numbers 8,9,10.
Shares will continue next week.
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Lauren and Ms. Charlotte
