November 15

Dear Evergreen families,

This week in the classroom the children helped with more prop making. The next area of the grocery store is going to be the deli department. The children that choose to work in the deli department will be making sandwiches, taking phone calls, and taking personal orders.

In small groups the children have been practicing a Tools of the Mind math activity, which is Making Connections. The children partnered up, one had a hand card and the other the check card. The child with the hand card chooses a picture, count how many objects are on the picture and then collect the number of pebbles that matches the number of objects. Then the child will ask their partner to check the answer. The child with the check card will match the number of pebbles on the object, which is the one to one correspondence. Then they will switch!

The children have also been reading the book Me and My Family Tree and talking about extended family. The holidays tend to be a time when family come together and it is a good time to talk about the similarities and differences in each other’s families. The teachers also drew her family tree by using a simple illustration to show the teacher’s family dynamic. We talked about how families are different from each other.

The children completed an obstacle course during outside time. They practiced their body coordination by doing various activities like balancing on the stepping stones, walking on the rope, copying the pictures of crab walking and jumping jack.  The children also tried the sack race.

Have a great weekend!

Ms. Cezanne, Ms. Brenda, Ms. Megan and Ms. Maunjaree
