January 31

Dear River Families,

We had a busy week in Kindergarten as we celebrated our 100th day of school and finished off the month of January! Activities this week included making 100 tallies, completing the 100 board, listening to a 100th day story and writing in journals. The children did many writing activities about things they can eat 100 of and what they would buy if they had $100. In our writing program, the children visualized a time that they felt angry and wrote about how they felt better. We also learned facts about polar bears and started our human body projects.

Math this week introduced the idea of shorter and longer as we enter a unit on measurement. We continued our Elmer shares – this is so much fun!  We even had a twin Elmer visit our classroom. During Charlotte’s peace lesson the children have been working on visualization, and role playing positive-mind and negative-mind scenarios.

February is a short and busy month!  We will begin units on Diversity and Acceptance, although this is really a yearlong/lifelong activity.  In our cultural/art area we will work through a study of Van Gogh.  And, we have a field trip planned on 2/6 to the Lafayette Library to begin working on our Spring Performance! Mark your calendar, April 16th.

Next week as a center, the children will get a checklist with each classmate’s name and will work on creating a letter, note or valentine art for each other. We will start our unit on mail, and these Valentines will go in the classroom “mailbox” and be “delivered” on Feb. 14th.   Please do not bring in any other valentines or treats for this day.

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Lauren and Ms. Charlotte
