July 17

Dear Forest families,

The theme this week was “Colors.” Primary colors was our main discussion. What are the primary colors? Red, blue and yellow. Students were able to identify the steps to create the color they want by mixing colors on their own with liquid color, watercolors, food coloring and tempera paint. We read the book, Mouse Paint, which spoke about three white mice who were able to conceal themselves against a sheet of white paper and become invisible to a sleek, gray cat.

Children were encouraged to make their own colors booklet using various materials from colored feathers, pieces of construction paper, colored leaves, etc.

Making fluffy paint was very exciting. Using glue, shaving cream, and adding some food coloring we were able to make it happen. Children created lots of artwork this week!

What do scientists do? Children were invited to be scientists. Testing experiments such as why dish soap molecules run around and try to attach to fat molecules in milk. They were encouraged to ask questions, think critically, experiment, and explain their reasoning. We read, Questions and Answers about Science. Scientists ask questions and try to find the solution. What happens if…? And so on and so on. The children’s curiosity really sparked during their experiments and they managed to put their “thinking goggles” on to find the answers.

Have a good weekend!
