Hello Evergreen Families,
This week in our classroom the children enjoyed watching chemical reactions with multiple experiments. In our volcano experiment we mixed baking soda, water and food coloring. The children talked about what they thought would happen prior to mixing the material. They were surprised to see the reaction. We talked about volcanoes and how they are formed. Ms. Brenda shared some names of different volcanoes in Mexico-Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatlit. It was a tongue twister for the children to say! We discussed that not all volcanoes erupt with lava but with ashes.
We did another experiment with Coca Cola and Mentos. For this experiment we talked about geysers, what they are and why they erupt. Ms. Brenda talked about Yellowstone National Park and the many geysers it has and the famously known Old Faithful.
The last experiment was magic milk. The children really liked how the colors mixed together and moved apart from the soap. We talked about how soap works to pull away fats and protein.
Next week we will be exploring engineering. The children will create with pulleys and levers.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Brenda
