Happy Spring! The children had a wonderful time playing outside this week in the sunshine. Please double check that your child has a summer hat and special sunscreen if you prefer something other than the brand Treehouse provides.
This Week- We learned about our five senses. We had so much fun with a special experiments that highlighted each one.
- Smell – We made smelling jars with fragrances of coffee, pickle juice, peppermint, orange, eucalyptus, lavender, maple syrup and pepper. The children loved guessing at the mystery smell.
- Touch – We introduced a new mystery box containing two compartments with identical objects. The children took turns relying on their sense of touch to describe what they were feeling. Fun descriptive words observed were: squishy, pointy, round, pokey, smooth, rough and furry.
- Hear – We played listening games of silence to isolate sounds heard in the classroom.
- Taste – We did a taste test highlighting our different taste buds. We tasted salty pretzels, bitter broccoli, spicy radishes, sweet blueberries, sour pickles and sour rhubarb.
- Sight – We discussed how light, color and shape through sight send messages to our brain on what we are seeing.
This Week in Art – The Children studied Vincent Van Gogh. We learned that he loved to paint using a lot of paint layered on his canvas creating the effect of movement in his work.
Works of art studied: The Potato Eaters, The Cypress Tree, The Olive Tree, The Postman, The Bedroom, Starry Night, Sunflower and Vincent Van Gogh’s self portrait
Student File –Please check student files at the end of the week. Reviewing artwork and worksheets is a great way to discuss what your child has learned for the week, what projects need to be finished or perhaps what your child needs practice with.
Missing material– A friendly reminder to please return any pieces that may travel home by accident in pockets or in art folders. Sadly, any work that is missing pieces will be pulled from the shelf and unavailable.
A peek into next week – Spring! We will learn about animal babies born in spring, parts of the egg and flower.
Have a great weekend!
