September 30

Good afternoon Birch families,

This week the Birch class focused their attention on all things fall!  The week was full of exploring leaves in the sensory table, observing leaves under magnifying blocks and crunching leaves under our feet while on nature walks.

During small circle, the class listened along to the books Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf, Let it Fall, Welcome Fall, Squirrels and Animals in Fall. The children also learned the song “The leaves are falling down” and the rhyme and finger play, “Scarecrow, Scarecrow” and “Autumn”.

Large motor skills continued to grow by jumping forward, walking backwards, building a tall tower with blocks and running and catching bubbles outside.

The children continued to work on their practical life skills drawing circles with crayons at the easel, working on a leaf matching game, and raking the leaves and woodchips out on the playground.

During music with Ms. Kathleen, the class practiced making “Baa Baa” sounds into a microphone, practiced banging on the drum, danced with scarves and created music with rhythm sticks.

During P.E. with Ms. Kira, the Birch class worked on their balance by walking across bubble steps and a tight rope, played “Red light, Green light” and galloped like horses around the playground.

Next week we will be discussing the different types of emotions we have and learning how to express them!

Have a wonderful weekend!
