September 30

Good afternoon Cedar and Dogwood families,

This week the children learned about harvest time.  We sang “Five Little Pumpkins,” “I Like to Eat Apples and Bananas,” “The Ants go Marching,” and “Driving my Tractor.”  The children read Harvest Time, Picking Apples & Pumpkins, Skip Through the Seasons, and The Apple FarmThe Apple Farm was a very simple book that was also used to talk about the sequence of events.  First you pick the apple, then you pay for the apple, and finally, you eat the apple. During art the children used fall fruit and vegetable stamps, made footprint pumpkins, and made a fall tree mural.

The children worked on their large motor skills when walking on tip toes, trying to walk backwards, walking on the wood beam, and jumping off the beam with two feet.  On Friday morning the children participated tight rope walking, walking on footprints, and playing “Ring around the Rosie” with Ms. Kira in P.E.

Practical life skills were used when the children practiced cutting Velcro fruits and vegetables, matching plants to their vegetable, squeezing clothespins, matching emotion faces on pumpkins, and twisting nuts and bolts.

The children explored with leaves, gourds, and herbs in the sensory table.  The children also used play dough.

During music with Ms. Kathleen the children listened to “The Three Little Kittens.”  The children also used shaker eggs, danced with scarves, and played a drum.

Happy 2nd Birthday to Everett!  Have a great weekend and hope to see you at the Fun Run!
