October 14

Dear River Families,

Thank you for those of you met with me this week for conferences! Conferences will continue into next week.

We had a busy week in Kindergarten. Just to clarify, we follow BVSD academic calendar, meaning that days BVSD is closed and Treehouse remains open, kindergarten will have “academic break”. These days will still consist of any special classes we have scheduled but will be more relaxed with free choice and before school/after school activities including games, puzzles, and art options available. If you have any questions, feel free to ask or as always you can email me at Kindergarten@treehouselearning.com

This week in River we started studying bats and began a unit on emotions. We used cards of children around the world with different expressions to define and discuss emotional vocabulary words. Understanding different descriptors of emotions will help your child in identifying their own emotions, which is especially helpful during conflict resolution. We made jack-o-lanterns with different facial expressions to represent a range of emotions. Centers this week included making a sight word book that your child can take home and tally when they find sight words in books, in environmental print and around your home! We completed an autumn book by filling in the blanks and phonetically spelling the words. Ms. Kira continued working with the children on, “my plate”, sorting food groups. Math this week focused on writing numbers 1-10 and number sense. This is our last week with Ms. Meghan for art as Ms. Emily returns from maternity leave next week!

We had a special visit on Thursday from, “Talking Hands, Talking Feet”! We use their music in our classroom for transitions daily and the children have really showed interest in the lyrics and motions that go with the music. We had a blast dancing and singing with them during a 30 min interactive performance here at Treehouse! On Friday we had a blast dancing with Beth Epley. What a week! I have filled all of the volunteer positions for the field trip to the pumpkin patch on Oct 20th.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Kira
