Hello Garden and Mountain Families.

This week we focused on a theme of ‘pumpkins.’ Though many of the children say “ball” when they see pumpkins, they have seemed to enjoy the theme. We looked at pictures in many different books about how pumpkins are grown and seen all the different phases. Besides the pumpkins being full grown, the children liked the phase where the yellow flowers bloom. Their favorite book to look at is an over-sized book about the size of them called Growing Pumpkins. These large books are great, since the pictures are so big.

The children also got to play with and explore different types of mini pumpkins and gourds. These hands-on discoveries are so great for their development and exploration of the world. Some of the children got to paint on the pumpkins and make jack-o-lantern collages.

In music class this week, Ms. Kathleen brought her drum, which is one of the favorite activities she does. It’s great for them, too, since they take turns playing, it helps them learn to share. She also sang some Halloween songs with them, including “Five Little Pumpkins,” and they listened to different owl sounds.

Have a great weekend!
