Good afternoon Evergreen families!

This week in Evergreen the children have been learning about diversity. What makes us the same? What makes us different? Through discussions and stories the children have discovered that people are the same on the inside. Everyone has a heart, lungs, blood, and a brain. Everyone likes to feel happy, and be treated with kindness. They have pointed out that some people look different. Some people may have different skin color, or hair color, or no hair at all. People are many different sizes, and enjoy different activities.

Some of the stories we are reading, have taught us about what children and families are like around the world. The children are learning there are many different kinds of food to eat, schools to go to, and houses to live in. You might have pancakes for breakfast, while a child in Europe may have tea and biscuits. You might take a car to work or school, while a family in Africa walks to work or school. You might live in a house, while a family in Japan may live in a houseboat.

This week the children expressed their differences in art. They traced their own hands, cut them out, and decorated them in many different ways. The children recognized that each person cut out their hands differently, and took the opportunity to help a friend when needed. They also noticed that although many children used sequins for decorations, there were many different patterns and ways the sequins were applied.

Next week we will continue to study diversity, and celebrate the things that make all people unique.

Have a fantastic weekend!

The Evergreen Team,

Ms. Riann, Ms. Lindsey, Ms. Becky, Ms. Suzan, and Ms. Meghan
