This week in Forest children played in Pet Vet play centers. They practiced adding problems to their play and came up with solutions to accomplish their goals. Children have been working together to come up with a plan for their play and they problem solve to keep it going every morning. As children pretend to play in the vet, animal shelter, pet shop, animal control, groomer, and obedience school we read books and learn language for children to use in their play. Next week we will finish this theme and start brainstorming ideas for the new unit!
In literacy this week Forest children read some old favorites about animals. We read The Grouchy Ladybug and retold the story using pictures. We read a book called That’s Not Mine and talked about the right way to problem solve when feeling angry. We also read a few pet shop related books to share with each other the kind of pets we would love to have!
In math and science this week, Forest children met in small groups to play various games. They practiced number recognition and memory skills through play doh. They also examined shells and rocks and practiced using new language to describe the objects.
Forest children also spent a little more time outside this week to enjoy the warm days we had! As it gets colder again, please make sure your child can fully enjoy the playground by bringing a warm coat, hat, mittens, boots, and snow pants!
Have a great weekend!
