April 28

Dear River Families,

This week in River we continued working on time and counting by 5’s on the clock. The children have enjoyed using their own clocks to make different times and working on reading the clock to identify what time it is. We also began a unit on money. The children sorted coins, identified how many cents each are worth and matched amounts of money. In our math books  the children worked on counting coins and number families 11-20. We have completed our final Jr. Great Book. And it will come home in backpacks Friday. The children have been writing poems and studying animal poetry in our Being a Writer program.

The children worked on interview questions and “wh-“ words (who, what, when, where, why, which).  They asked one another questions. Built the words with the moveable alphabet and wrote down questions to ask their teachers. Ms. Susan worked with the students with various Spanish songs and jeopardy games. Ms. Kira did a special lesson on what to do if you get lost and cannot find your family. Ms. Kira encouraged the children to work on memorizing their address and parents phone numbers in case of emergency. Ms. Kathleen worked with individuals on the metallaphones and began practicing graduation songs.

Thank you are all for meeting with me this week for conferences! Ms. Susan’s Spanish fiesta is next Friday, 5/5 from 4:00-5:00! The children are looking forward to showing off what they have learned in Spanish this year.

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Kira
