July 14

Hello Aspen families,

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week. This week’s theme was cooking, so in big circle we looked at different kitchen utensils and talked about what they are called and how to use them. The utensils included a ladle, a whisk, measuring cups (wet and dry), large spoons, and funnels. The children spent the rest of the week working with the kitchen utensils we discussed in soapy water in the water table during their work period. The children also learned about food groups this week, playing a nutrition sorting game putting food into the dairy, grain, meat/bean, fruit or vegetable group and identifying the food groups in their lunches. We also talked about pizza this week! Making their own Aspen Pizzeria and decorating their own pizza was lots of fun for the children.

In big circle we read the books Billy the Goat’s Big Breakfast, The King Who Wouldn’t Sleep, Chef, Mousetronaut and I Spy Shapes in Art. Works opened this week include kitchen utensils in the water table, the food sorting game, sorting pizza’s by size, bean bag toss and the shape train sorting game.

In Spanish the children continued to practice learning the names of different forms of transportation and practiced by playing games!

Ms. Kathleen brought her guitar again for music this week, which is always a big hit with the children! She also introduced a new game where the children should identify which sound is louder and then order the sounds from loudest to softest.

For PE this week we stretched our bodies with yoga cards before moving and grooving to freeze dance.

Finally, on Friday we were able to go listen to Ms. Beth Epely tell the children stories and sing to them with her guitar. They adore when Ms. Epely comes and often pretend to play their own guitars at free time just like her and Ms. Kathleen.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Kate and Ms. Megan
