Hello Aspen families!
This week the children have been learning all about their five senses. Monday was focused on sight, so we first talked about what our five senses are and then the children played the five senses sorting game. Tuesday was all about sounds, the five sense sorting game was open for work and they each played an instrument to test if the sound it made was loud or soft. Wednesday was about our sense of smell, so the children smelled sweet and sour smells such as vinegar, lemon juice, a peach and cinnamon. Thursday was all about taste, so we discussed what we use our mouth for and each child chose their favorite fruit or vegetable to taste. Finally, Friday was focused on touch, each child chose an item from the sensory bag and together we felt the object and described what it felt like, hard or soft, rough or smooth, etc.
In big circle this week we read Grumpy Cat, I Knew You Could, The Most Magnificent Thing, The Pout Pout Fish Far, Far from Home, and Bear Sees Colors. Ms. Kristine joined us for big circle on Tuesday and led big circle on Thursday, which was a great opportunity for the kids to get to know her! She told the children a little bit about what to expect when they come to Evergreen, and the kids told her a little bit about them! Classroom visits will start next week, and we are all very excited!
Work that was open for free choice this week included mixing colors at the easel, washing dishes in the water table, the five senses sorting game and building with small logs.
In Spanish this week Ms. Susan introduced the words for many clothing items we all commonly wear and the children were able to dress a bear with the clothes they were discussing. The kids also continued to work on recognizing colors and naming different vehicles in Spanish.
In music this week the children danced with scarves, shook shaker eggs to the beat, listened to animal sounds and sang the ladybug song!
For PE this week the kids played with movement dice, yoga cards, and outside they all played Hey Mr. Fox together.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Kate and Ms. Megan
