Hello Aspen families,

In the classroom this week our focus has been All About Me! We started out the week talking about the different parts of our bodies (including head, eyes, nose, ears, arms, legs, heart, brain, bones and muscles) and drawing pictures of ourselves. To aid in drawing self portraits, the children listened to the song Mat Man and looked in the mirror. Later in the week we continued to learn about our bodies and care of self activities, including washing hands, brushing teeth and exercising. In addition to learning about the body, this week we also learned about mixing the colors red and yellow to create the color orange.

In circle time this week we read the books All About Me, Orange, Who Likes Rain?, Going to the Dentist and A Friend Like You. In addition to checking the weather and reading stories, the kids learned a few new songs in circle time this week including “5 Green and Speckled Frogs” and “I’m a Little Teapot”. The children really enjoyed the chance to use laminated paper smiles to practice cleaning teeth with toothbrushes. Throughout the week they have also been practicing their hand washing techniques, including singing the ABC’s while scrubbing with soap. On Friday they created and decorated their own exercise grab bags and used them to exercise their bodies.

New works that were opened this week include ramps and rollers, floam in baking trays, mixing paint to make orange and washing food and dishes in the water table.

In Spanish this week Ms. Susan worked with the children on counting by tossing a ball. They also continued to practice their colors and animal vocabulary.

With Ms. Charlotte in literacy the children listened to the story Addie’s Bad Day and had a discussion about making predictions in the story.  This type of activity strengthens oral language skills and early pre-literacy.

In music this week Ms. Kathleen taught the children the hand washing song, had them dance and jump to the jumping song, dance with scarves and sing “Frosty the Snowman” – a Treehouse favorite!

Have a safe and relaxing weekend!

Ms. Kate, Ms. Megan and Ms. Susie
