Hello Forest Families,

This week in Forest we continued our community helpers play and “My Amazing Body” big Idea. In the Police station the class was introduced to the role of Sergeant. After reading Busy People Police officer the children learned that when a police officer goes to work they first report to the Sergeant and they are in charge of telling the police officer where to go. They could go on patrol, be in charge of going to schools to give safety lessons, investigate crime scenes, or be on patrol during a parade or festival to make sure everyone stays safe. In the Doctor’s office we reviewed roles of the Doctor, Nurse, and Patient and learned how to wrap a “broken bone” with an ace bandage. In the Fire station the children worked really hard taking care of the fire house and made sure the fire truck was working properly and was cleaned after responding to a fire.

During small group lessons the children worked on a story extension of a story called Snowmen at Work. This book was all about different jobs that we see in our community and the children had the opportunity to draw a snowman and write about what kind of job they wanted it to have. During Graphics practice we reviewed the letters S, R, and the number 5. The children played a game called “I have-Who has?” while reviewing letters, numbers, colors in this card game.  The children also put together a large x-ray skeleton puzzle and labeled some major body parts as they learned more about the human body.

On Friday the class was able to do P.E in the big room and use the parachute which is always a hit. In art the children continued working on self-portraits. Last week they just focused on the details of their face and this week included their full body. This art will be displayed for all to see!
