February 2

Hello families,

It’s been a great week here in the Aspen class. Our focus this week has been mixing colors to create green as well as learning all about fish! The kids also really enjoyed the chance to get all bundled up and to play in the snow on Thursday. Next week we are going to begin talking about Valentine’s Day.

In circle time this week we read the books Green, Under the Sea, Pout-Pout Fish Far From Home, and Commotion in the Ocean. Using the Under the Sea book and a variety of images of lake and sea fish the kids discussed what different fish looked like and where they lived, as well as what their habitats looked like. Another circle activity this week involved sorting fish and matching numbered fish.

For work time this week the water table was open with materials to build underwater fish homes, and ramps and rollers were opened. Thursday and Friday the children really enjoyed taking turns fishing for letters with tongs! We have been working with the children on using tongs correctly through activities like this one as well as shelf works like counting and moving pom poms with tongs.

The children worked on a couple art projects this week as well, they mixed blue and yellow paint to create green with textured paint rollers which they had great fun exploring. They also had the opportunity to fill in fish bowls by painting with bingo dabbers.

For music class this week we sang “Old MacDonald Had a Farm”, listened to farm animal sounds and danced to the song “Driving My Tractor”.

In literacy this week Ms. Charlotte read Sadie Builds a Snowman with the children and they discussed the story and making predictions about the story.

Ms. Susan began working with the kids on naming the emotions in Spanish, as well as continuing to practice counting and colors.

For PE this week we worked on hopping on one foot, jumping with two feet and balancing on one foot.

Have a safe and relaxing weekend!

Ms. Kate, Ms. Megan and Ms. Susie
