February 2

Dear River Families,

We had a busy week in Kindergarten as we celebrated our 100th day of school and welcomed the month of February! We learned facts about Groundhogs and finished our human body projects! Activities this week included making 100 tally’s, completing the 100 board, listening to a 100 day story and writing in journals! The children did many writing activities about things they can eat 100 of and what they would buy if that had $100! The children continued to work on their world maps and will be taking these home this week or next. In our writing program, the children visualized a time that they felt angry and wrote about how they felt better.

Math this week introduced the idea of shorter and longer as we enter a unit on measurement. 100 project shares begin next week, and we are looking forward to seeing what everyone will bring! We will work together as a class for each share to count ten groups of ten.  In peace lesson the children have been working on visualization, role playing positive mind and negative mind scenarios.

February is a short and busy month! We begin units on Chinese New Year, Diversity and Acceptance, Van Gogh and have a field trip on 2/22 to the Lafayette Library to begin working on our Spring Performance! Please follow Treehouse policy sent out in the parent notes for Valentines Day! Next week as a center, the children will get a checklist with each child’s name and will work on creating a letter, note or valentine art for each child. We start our unit on mail and these valentines will go in the classroom “mailbox” and handed out to each child on Feb. 14! Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Lauren and Ms. Kira
