Dear River Families,

This week in River, we welcomed April and began a new unit on paper and wood! The children identified properties of wood and where it comes from. We studied and discussed the journey of a tree into a cardboard box and paper. The children went on a hunt in the classroom and made a list of items that are wood or paper. They were surprised to see how many things come from trees! This unit will continue for the entirety of April and we will begin focusing on caring for earth. We had another awesome visit from Kristel Brown (Charlotte’s Mom) to do some drama activities and help the children get more comfortable moving and speaking on stage! THANK YOU Kristel!

 This week in math we worked on number families and breaking 10 up in different ways. This time of year, math becomes a little bit more challenging and will begin to spend a significant amount of time working until the end of the school year. We reviewed what we call the “bossy r”, -or -ar -er -ir -ur as a class and identified words that have these sounds in them. We continued working with digraphs sh- ch- wh- th- qu- and began working on vowel variants -oi -oy -ou. Most the week was spent putting the finishing touches on the spring performance. The children created trees for the backdrop of the performance. In Art, the children worked on their animal head-dresses and completed them! We rehearsed in the big room and showed off our costumes to the class!

Upcoming events and important information! Next week we will continue sharing facts about plants and animals. We still have a few children who are missing costumes and a couple of children who are still working on memorizing their poems. Please check in with your child and work with them on memorization as the performance is next week! As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!

–4/10- Dress Rehearsal performance for Forest and Evergreen at 9:00am. Please make sure your child is on time to school Tuesday morning. Anyone is welcome to come and watch!

-4/12- Spring Performance & Art Show 6:30pm at Treehouse Learning. Please pick up your child prior to the show and make sure s/he is back at Treehouse in costume by 6:15!
