Hello Cedar families,
This week in the Cedar and Dogwood classes we talked about South America and Earth Day. We looked at pictures of capybaras, and lizards , and practiced jumping like frogs around the room. The children also learned about the things they can do to help protect the earth, like recycling our cups and plates, and using a little bit of water when washing our hands. We saw a ladybug outside and watched it crawl away. We practiced scooping wood chips in to the wheel barrow, driving our cars thru cones, and jumping off the balance beam. And as we are sure you know, your children are quite creative and they made tunnels out of chairs, nap mats and even the tables to see how fast we could get our cars to go!In our small group lessons this week we looked at pictures of recycling trucks which was so much fun because we see the truck come and get the recycling when we are in Cedar. We also sang “Bringing Home My Baby Bumble bee” and we crawled around like cats and made the sound like cats make.
During circle time, this week we read: Where Does The Rabbit Hop. The children continued to work on their practical life skills this week by opening and closing tin boxes, threading large beads, and using the hand sweeper to clean up after meal times. This week in art we painted with blue, and explored with play dough. We made foil balls and painted with them on yellow paper. It was fun to scrunch up the foil. The children also explored with wet and dry grass and noticed how the wet grass was cold. We had fun with our hula hoops outside and trying to get them to roll and the children enjoyed watching the teachers being silly and trying to hula hoop.
In music, this week Ms. Kathleen brought back the shaker eggs, sticks and bells and sang “Old McDonald Had a Band” and each child was able to play the instruments; then they danced with scarves to “Lets Go a-Galloping”. Music continued when Ms. Kathleen wasn’t around as the children enjoyed “Going on a Bear Hunt” and dancing to Raffi.
Have an amazing weekend and enjoy the wonderful weather!
