September 28

Dear Forest families,

We had a terrific first week of fall! We are loving our crisp cool mornings and warm sunny afternoons. With the changes in weather please check your child’s cubby for a light jacket and weather appropriate clothes.

This week’s focus – Health and Nutrition

We learned:

  • Eating healthy foods helps our body to get the vitamins and nutrients it needs to grow and learn.
  • Eating a healthy balanced diet of the right portions is important. Through the food pyramid we learned our bodies need. 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables, 3-5 grains, 3 servings of dairy, 2-3 servings of protein, a very small amount of fats and oils and only 1 serving of sugar a day.
  • Unhealthy foods that are fried or sugary do not give our bodies important nutrients and can make us feel sluggish or tired.
  • Unhealthy foods are referred to as sometimes foods. Sometime foods are ok to eat once in a while just not everyday.
  • Drinking water is very important.
  • Our bodies need at least 60 minutes of exercise everyday.
  • We learned the importance of washing our hands, covering our coughs, getting rest, and visits to the dentist and doctor keep us healthy.
  • We also learned ways to keep our bodies safe by wearing sunscreen, helmets and safety when playing near water or staying away from something that looks dangerous.

A peek into next week – Feelings and moods

Have a fantastic weekend!
