Happy New year Forest families!
This week we jumped right into a new unit learning all about helpers in our community! We are focusing on firefighters and police officers. This has sparked lots of curiosity about what they do and how they help others. To give them a chance to use all of the knowledge they have gained we’ve set up our big building center as a fire station/police station during our morning work period so they get the chance to act as a firefighter or police officer in our community. Firefighters spent time building structures that then caught on fire and had to put out, while the police officers were busy solving mysterious crimes like real detectives! Next week we will continue to build on a firefighter and a police officer’s role as we learn more fun facts that keep all of us safe in our community.
In addition the children started learning the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff for dramatic play. This week was focused on learning the story, sequencing it from beginning to end and establishing roles. Next week the children will start planning in their journal about what characters they want to be before acting out the story.
In math the children had small group lessons on greater than or less than using the beads from the pyramid work as well as rolling two dice. During literacy small group the children has a review of letter/sounds A-D as well as took some time to practice their writing skills with graphics practice.
On Friday we enjoyed art and Ms. Beth Epley, the local storyteller!
Have a nice weekend!
