Dear Evergreen families,
This week in our classroom have opened our restaurant play theme. We have a pizza parlor, ice cream store, and a sit down restaurant that serves Chinese food. The children have enjoyed playing their roles as servers, cooks, hostess, and of course being customers.
The teachers read a book about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I have a Dream. We all compared the color of our skin, eyes, and hair. We talked about the similarities and differences that make us unique and no matter how we look, we accept and care for each other. In addition we have been reading the Sanford Harmony books, for our social emotional curriculum. The book series focuses on inclusion, acceptance, problem solving, friendship and community building. These are all the values Treehouse Learning shares.
The class also talked about the National Western Stock Show. The children talked about the different things they saw and experienced when they went to see the event. We talked about cattle and cowboys. We focused on cowboy lifestyle and accessories needed for their tough work.
We all learned about Chinese New Year this week. We read books, and colored dragon and lion masks. We even tried to greet each other with “Happy New Year” in Chinese, which is “Gung Hay Fat Choy!” The class enjoyed ordering noodles and dim sum at our sit down restaurant and we had a parade during our outside time wearing masks and playing a tiny drum.
Below is a link to different festivities to celebrate Chinese New Year starting tomorrow, Jan.25th to Feb. 8th in different nearby towns.
