Dear Aspen families,
The children in the Aspen class enjoyed watching snow fall from inside our cozy and warm classroom. As the temperatures were too cold to go outside four out of the five days this week, we decided to bring the snow inside which was fun for them to explore. This week’s big idea related to diversity and fish. Some of the art projects we did this week relating to fish included painting foil and then cutting it into the shape of a fish, making fish out of paper plates, and coloring fish. In addition, we read a number of books about fish including The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister, Fish Wish by Bob Barner, and Fish School by Nancy Poydar. We also sang some songs about fish including “I’m A Little Fishy,” “The Goldfish Song,” “Baby Shark,” and “Five Little Fish.” We worked on a high scope math activity every day this week. It was called Button Pizza. The children would prepare a playdough pizza, and this activity taught them how to count using buttons on the playdough.
In addition, we had a real treat this week as Ms. Patti led our circle time each day. We learned some new songs including “What are you Wearing?” and “Snowflakes are Falling.” Ms. Patti introduced a Dr. Seuss matching game on Monday. On Tuesday, she read books about fish and sang songs with the children about fish. On Wednesday, she introduced a color matching game, and the children went on a color scavenger hunt. Finally, on Friday, Ms. Patti introduced a math activity which involved putting different sized sticks in the correct size order from longest to shortest. We hope you enjoyed reading about our week and that you have a great weekend.
Ms. Randi, Ms. Delani, and Ms. Allie
