Dear Aspen families,
This week, we started to learn about the exciting topic of Science and Experiments. The three big experiments that we did this week included the Walking Water Rainbow Science Experiment, Building our own Kid Friendly Volcano, and Making Preschool Science Goop. In the Walking Water Rainbow Science Experiment, we used 7 plastic cups and filled every other cup with water. Next, we added food coloring (primary colors) to the four of the seven cups that had the water in them (two had red, one had yellow, and one had blue). We then folded paper towel sheets and inserted ½ of a rolled paper towel in the first cup and placed the other half of that sheet in the second cup. We then placed another paper towel sheet from the 3rd cup to the 4th and so on. By the end of the day, amazingly, the colored water crawled up all the paper towels which created the colors of the rainbow. In addition, all cups had colored water in them. On Wednesday, we put white carnations into the colored water cups and watched the carnations turn different colors. Based on this experiment, we discussed facts about rainbows. In addition, the children made a project out of coffee filters by coloring the filters and then spraying them with water to create rainbows. One book that we read this week was How The Crayons Saved The Rainbow by Monica Sweeney.
On Wednesday, we made Goop out of Elmer’s glue, baking soda, contact lens solution, and food coloring. The children worked for a long time and could not stop playing with theirs. They had so much fun playing with the goop.
On Friday, we did the Volcano experiment which was fantastic! Plus, we will be talking all about volcano facts as well. Enjoy your weekend ahead.
